And we're back. Hope everyone had a nice Christmas holiday.
So. Much. Happened. Over the break, it appears that the Moscow police department has identified and caught the Idaho murderer. We also have a very awful case of a missing mother of three, and here in my city of Toronto, police have identified the man who was murdered by 8 teen girls.
A lot of things, scroll down to read more!

My Pod
This week I started a two part series on Robert Hansen. AKA Alaska's Butcher Baker. Robert Hansen is probably Alaska's most prolific serial killer. And that is actually saying a lot, because interestingly, Alaska has had a lot of serial killers. And a lot of killers in general. Tune in this week and next to hear about this "upstanding anchorage baker".Check out on Youtube, Apple or Spotify. And maybe subscribe to us on youtube, if you want :)
Idaho Murders
There has been a huge break in the case. And yes, I am quite late on this. But for anyone who is unaware, over the break, police arrested 28 year old Bryan Kohberger who was at his parent's home in Pennsylvania for Christmas at the time. Kohberger had to be extradited back to Idaho.
Who is Bryan Kohberger?Bryan was a Phd student at Washington State University and he was studying criminal justice. Go figure...Although he lived a whole state over, Bryan lived only 15 minutes from the murder scene.Recently, the Moscow police released a probable cause affidavit which walked us through the investigation and why they believe Kohberger is their killer. Here are some of the main takeaways:
The time of the murders appears to be just after 4:15am. We know this because Zana had ordered food from door dash, she spoke to the delivery guy and the food was in the house. Based on her phone records, she was also scrolling on Tik Tok until about 4:12 am.As we already knew, there were two surviving roommates, and according to the affidavit, one of them saw and heard pretty much nothing, but the other one, herby referred to as DM was a major witness. Although this only became clear after the fact.
DM claimed that around the time of the murders, she heard an unfamiliar male voice. She also heard what she thought was Kaylee Goncalves playing with her dog in her room, and then later, crying. Of course she didn't assume she was hearing someone murdering four people. Presumably she assumed it was her roommates and/or friends of the roommates just dicking around. Although it's clear that she did get either a little bit suspicious, or interested in what was going on. As DM continued to hear voices and shuffling etc, she poked her head out of her room a few times. The last time she did this she came out of her room and saw a man, who walked right past her and out of the sliding glass doors. DM described this man as approx 5'10" or taller, wearing black clothing, with bushy eyebrows, not very muscular, but athletic looking. He was wearing a mask that was covering his nose and mouth. After seeing this man, she went back to her room and locked herself in.
The suspect made one huge crucial mistake, I mean he made a few, but this one is glaring. He left the sheath for his knife in the residence. The sheath was found in Kaylee Goncalves's room and it was brown leather and had "Ka-Bar" and "USMC" stamped on it, along with the United State Marine Corps logo. There was also male DNA belonging to the suspect on the sheath.
They also had cell phone signals and were able to see where he was before and after the murders. He just so happened to turn off his cell phone during the exact time that the murders took place. Also, after looking through his cell phone signal records, he had driven to that house about a dozen times, in the middle of the night! CREEPY!!! He also drove back to the scene of the crime the next morning around 9 am. What. A. CREEP.
A lot of this information had been known to the Moscow police right from the get go, and it seems that they suspected him from very early on, but they needed time to gather evidence. The DNA evidence took them a while, as his DNA was not in CODIS. They actually had to collect his DNA from his trash in order to compare it to their sample. This also tells us that he has no criminal record.
There is so much more to that document, I absolutely suggest reading it in its entirety, it's in very plain language, so it's easy to read. I think it's super important, as with any case, that people remain calm, and let the justice system do its job, everyone should be seen as innocent until proven guilty. But damn, it appears that they have a lot on this guy... And Idaho does have the death penalty.Unfortunately, we will have to wait until the summer for Bryan Kohberger's preliminary hearing.
Girls gone nuts
Last issue I wrote about this horrific story that happened in my city of Toronto, where 8 teenage girls (allegedly) ranging in ages from 13-16, stabbed a homeless man to death. The victim has just been identified as 59 year old Ken Lee.
We still do not have the identities of the girls because of Canada's Youth Criminal Justice Act, but we do know that so far one of them has been granted bail. On January 20th and 27th, two more of them will have bail hearings and the rest have not yet been giving hearing dates. This case is still unfolding, but the (alleged) perpetrators are all minors, I'm sure information will be limited. We shall see...
Always the husband
The last major story that happened during my break was this awful missing persons case. 39 year old, mother of 3, Ana Walsh of Michigan, seemed to have gone missing on January 1st. After appearing to co-operate with police, the huz, 47 year old Brian Walsh, began to look very suspicious almost immediately. And here is why:-He lied to police about when he last saw Ana. Which later led to a criminal charge of misleading police.-Blood and a bloody knife was found in the family's basement,-Internet search history shows that Brian searched "how to dismember and dispose of a body".-Friends and family describe Brian as a total piece of shit person, who swindled money out of his own father and is a diagnosed sociopath. Damn. Ana is still missing, and police have been searching the Boston area. I recently read that some of Ana's friends are pleading with authorities to let them take in Ana's children so that they do not end up in foster care. What an awful horrific story,And what do we take from this? Although, yes, innocent until proven guilty, but, it's always the husband...The latest

What did you read/watch/listen to over the break? All I was able to get through was the book I'm reading for the pod. It was great though.
It's called Butcher, Baker: the True Account of an Alaskan Serial Killer by Walter Gilmour and Leland E. Hale.
