My Pod

So I finally wrapped up the Atlanta Child Murders case, although to be honest, I feel like there is still a lot to say about that case. I am contemplating a possible follow up. Please hit me up with anything you think I may have left out, or any hot takes on the case! This week the show was about the Lafferty brothers and the murder of Brenda and Erica Lafferty. This case I find super interesting. Anything with religious extremism is so fascinating, but also so terribly sad.  I highly suggest checking out John Krakauer's bool Under the Banner of Heaven (but only after you watch my episode!)Check out on Youtube, Apple or Spotify. And maybe subscribe to us on youtube, if you want :)

More Delphi murder updates

So last week I touched on some of the updates in the Delphi murder case. And most of that was newly released evidence which points toward Richard Allen. I saw this press release later that day and I thought it only fair to present it here as well. This is from Allen's lawyers, obviously innocent until proven guilty. I for one am very interested to see how they will argue for his innocence and if he is indeed guilty. We shall see!

More DNA

Last week I talked a bit about new DNA technology and databases being used to solve cold cases. This week, the Boy in the Box has positively been identified as four-year-old Joseph Augustus Zarelli. Police have not identified his parents, who are apparently both dead. They said that he does still have some living siblings. More on that case here.So what are they doing now that has made DNA so much more useful? Well we've been using familial DNA to not only try and match to a specific suspect, but to anyone who shares parts of the suspect's DNA. That means that if investigators are able to track down someone who they know could be related to their suspect, it's possible to narrow down their search to a very small number of people. Here is a very simple video explaining. And since so many people have voluntarily submitted their DNA to companies like 23 and me, we now have giant databases to compare samples to. It used to just be criminals (CODIS) who had their DNA collected. This process of using familial DNA was used for the case in Our Father, the Netflix documentary about that disgusting fertility doctor who used his own sperm to impregnate a million women (I think the count is somewhere in the 90s right now). Obviously this is pretty controversial. On the one hand, we are closing cold case after cold case. SO MUCH justice is being served every day. On the other hand, some people don't feel this is right. And They feel like they did not agree to allow law enforcement to use this database when they gave a sample. I'm not sure what the fine print said but, yeah it does seem kiiiiinda sketch. What do you think?

Most hated woman in America is back

She's back! The most hated women in America is back and at it again. Casey Anthony has been featured in a documentary series on Peacock called Where the Truth Lies. I think most of the internet had been going off. A lot of people, very reasonably, are urging others not to watch it, not to giver her attention. And I very much get that. But let's be real. This was one of the biggest, most upsetting cases in the last 10 or so years. OJ level stuff. I have probably listened to 20-30 hours of information on this case and read entire books. I am VERY well versed in this one.  Like pretty much everyone else, I was and remain horrified that Casey Anthony was acquitted and roams free on this earth. So do you really think that I'm just not going to watch this series and see what this monster has to say after 10 years? Yeah right.Unfortunately.... I live in Canada. So it is unavailable. And  although I have tried, I have not been able to track it down online. (Please HMU if you have!) But, I did watch this video on youtube. And I've never seen any of this guy's (Behind Criminal Minds) other videos, but I thought he did a great job. So if you're like me and you cannot get the actual series, or if you just don't want to support Casey, check it out.Spoiler, she just blames everything on her dad.
