My Pod
This week's episode is the final part of my series on the Atlanta Child Murders. I discuss Wayne, and alternate theories, including that the KKK was involved or one or some of the MANY child predators in the area. This case in particular really gets to me. Thinking about all those kids who were targeted, victimized and killed just gets me right in the gut. Hug your kids you guys.Check out on Youtube, Apple or Spotify. And maybe subscribe to us on youtube, if you want :)
Delphi murder updates
Not much new with the Idaho murders, but there has been new info released on the Delphi case. There have been unredacted court records released that produced some new information. Some of this information includes:
-Abby and Libby were found without their clothing, their clothes were found nearby.
-Their manner of death still has not been released.
-A spent bullet was found on the ground between the two girls. That bullet was later found to a be a match to a gun that was seized from Richard Allen’s home.
-Richard Allen was treated as a witness at multiple points during the investigation as it was known that he was at the park on the day of the murders.
-His story about why he was there and around the bridge changed a few times.
-Another witness said that they saw a man in blue jeans and a blue jacket who was “muddy and bloody and looked like they had been in a fight”.
Richard Allen still maintains his innocence, and there is still unrelased evidence. Here is some further reading and videos on the case.True crime daily CNN articleRichard still maintains his innocence (article) DNAI've been thinking a lot about DNA this week. Not just DNA, but our pretty new ability to take really old DNA samples, and find matches, typically through familial DNA samples and data bases from companies like 23 and Me. This came up in my latest podcast episode about the Atlanta Child Murders. If you listened, you're aware that the city of Atlanta is in the process of retesting a bunch of the DNA evidence from the case. It's been taking longer than expected (of course) but I think there is a real possibility that they could find something. Fingers crossed. Two friends of the podcast/newsletter also sent me some super fascinating news this week. Two very old murder cases that were JUST solved using this exact technology. This case, a double murder from my own city (Toronto) was just solved after 40 years! This man, Joseph George Sutherland murdered two women in his early 20's and was just arrested nearly 40 years later! It really makes you think... Did he just completely stop his murderous ways after killing two women in his twenties? Or did they just find a serial killer? I guess we'll see...
DNA
Here is more on the lab that was able to test the sample that was used to actually find this guy . One of the women at the lab says that it is her belief that this technology is going to essentially end cold cases. Damn. The second case that I was sent, is a super old cold case from Philadelphia. I absolutely remember reading about this case, there are photos associated that are just haunting. 65 years ago, a little boy was found dead and beaten in a cardboard box. Investigators were never able to identify him and he was from then on known as "the boy in the box". First of all just take that in. HORRIFIC. Can you even imagine what kind of monster could do that to a CHILD? ugh.
For 65 years they have been unable to identify him, until now. Investigators have not yet released his name, but amazingly, he has been identified, and finally his tombstone will bear his name. Philadelphia police plan to identify him to the public next week. Hopefully this will lead to a reopening of the case, and potentially hunting down his murderer. Although in all likelihood that person is now dead. Read more about the case here. This is what we knew about the boy in the box until now.Perhaps next week I will delve a bit more into the science involved in this area of forensics. It's truly fascinating.
