Sup.
There was a lot going on in true crime news this week, some cases are closed! Two pretty major case updates, which I would love to hear takes on... A possible new serial killer, which is kind of rare these days. Or maybe they're just all online now...
And just a heads up for all who care, a new season of Unsolved Mysteries just dropped on Netflix. Nothing is more cozy than an October evening with a glass of wine, some halloween candy and some Unsolved Mysteries. Right???
Hopefully its good...

My Pod
So in light of all the Jeffrey Dahmer hype (NGL I've been super into it...) I decided to do an episode on Joachim Kroll. Who in my opinion is Germany's own Jeffrey Dahmer. Ever heard of him? Tons of similarities. Listen to the episode to hear about those... and please comment on the youtube video to chat about him. Check it out on Youtube, Apple or Spotify. And maybe subscribe to us on youtube, if you want :)

Crazy, Not Insane (HBO):Okay, this one I'm actually very unsure what to make of. This documentary centres around Dorothy Otnow Lewis, a psychiatrist who specializes in violent offenders, that she believes suffer from dissociative identity disorder (DID). DID, formerly multiple personality disorder, is one of the most controversial mental health diagnosis' around. There is much debate about DID within the mental health field, in terms of its existence as a disorder, its causes and its treatments.
In the film Dorothy talks about a number of the 22 serial killers she's interviewed, some of whom she believes have DID. We get to see some of these interviews and hear the alternate personalities. She also discusses brain scans and neurological findings. Dorothy even has a secret tape of an interview she did with Ted Bundy, and evidence of her theory that he suffered from DID. How compelling is the evidence? You tell me...Dorothy's argument to the justice system is that these very violent offenders, and in a lot of cases, serial killers, should not be put to death if they suffer from any mental health issues, or actual brain damage that caused their behaviour. This is very controversial stuff that has garnered her a lot of criticism. Personally, I don't really know what to think, but I found Dorothy to be a very compelling character, and I loved watching her fight for her case. DID is a fascinating topic that is highly debated and has clearly been made all the more confusing through pop culture and the media. It's even become trendy on tik tok. Here Dr.Grande gives an in-depth analysis of the controversy around DID.
The Stockton serial killer
It seems that a man responsible for shooting and killing 6 men has been apprehended. 43 year old Wesley Brownlee was arrested on October 15, 2022. He was being surveilled at the time, and it was believed he was on the hunt for his next victim that very night. Police have linked Brownlee to 6 shooting deaths and one shooting where a woman was shot multiple times but survived. The linkage was apparently made through ballistics. So far the confirmed victims are:
- 35-year-old Paul Alexander Yaw (Stockton)
- 43-year-old Salvador William Debudey Jr. (Stockton)
- 21-year-old Jonathan Hernandez Rodriguez (Stockton)
- 52-year-old Juan Cruz (Stockton)
- 52-year-old Lorenzo Lopez (Stockton)
- 40-year-old Juan Miguel Vasquez Serrano (Oakland)
- Unnamed black female shot multiple times but survived
We do not know why he is doing this, the obvious question. What can be said about the victims is that a majority of them were hispanic, and a majority of them were homeless, and all who died were men. There is a lot more information about this rapidly evolving case here. What I will say is, you hardly see cases of true serial killers anymore, so it will be very interesting to learn more...I will do my best to keep us updated on the case!
Paul Flores finally goes down
So most of us who've been lurking about the true crime space know exactly who Kristen Smart is. For those of you who don't, here are just a few popular videos about her case:
Your Own Backyard Podcast - a podcast dedicated to Kristin's case.
And if you don't feel like looking into it, allow me: Kristin Smart was a college student at California Polytechnic State University. On May 26, 1996, Kristin attended an off campus party with other students. As many young college kids do, Kristin got really drunk and she passed out on the front lawn of the party. Two people found Kristen and began to walk her home, but they were intercepted by Paul Flores, known CREEP, and he said that he lived super close to her dorm and would get her home safe... She was never seen again. In 2002, Kristin was declared legally dead. Paul has always been the number one suspect, and everyone knew he did it (ALLEGEDLY). But the police never found a body. It was always believed that Paul's father Ruben helped Paul move Kristin's body and buried her in Ruben's backyard, until they again moved her to an unknown location or destroyed the remains entirely.Apparently, according to the court records, they did end up finding biological evidence in the soil in Ruben's backyard that proved that Kristin was there, at least at some point. And now a jury has found Paul Flores guilty of murder. SEE YA PAUL!
