Atlanta Monster:
This podcast series is hosted by Payne Lindsay and is an in-depth investigation into Wayne Williams and the Atlanta Child Murders. This case was recently popularized by the Netflix series Mindhunter, which I LOVED. For anyone unfamiliar, in the later 70s, early 80s, one by one, young black kids were being plucked off the street and found, murdered.  In 2 ish years, the list of murdered kids had reached approximately 25. Finally, after getting the FBI involved, they arrested 22 year old Wayne Williams. He went down for only 2 of the murders, and to this day, he is unofficially blamed for the bulk of them. BUT, there are MANY people who do not think Wayne Williams is responsible. There is huge debate about his innocence including among many of the victim's families. Payne does a great job retelling the story, going through evidence and even getting multiple interviews with Wayne. And Wayne is pretty fucking weird, not gonna lie. Great series on a VERY interesting topic. Also as a bonus, there is an episode where Payne interviews (the legendary) ex-FBI profiler John Douglas, who had a big role in this case.

I Just Killed My Dad:
Okay, so, after I first watched this, honestly I was a little underwhelmed. But on second thought, I think I have just been hardened by way too much true crime content, my bad! This Netflix documentary series focuses on a teenage boy, Anthony Templet, who had shot and killed his father, and immediately turned himself in. After hearing his police interrogation you learn that there is a lot more to the story. The podcast Real Crime Profile did a very interesting 2 part episode going through the whole series and you can listen to that here.  This series is such a fascinating case study of the self defence plea, coercive control and domestic violence. I won't tell you if Anthony was convicted or not, but I'd say it's worth a watch.

Realhistoryuncovered:
So this is an instagram page, and every photo is the subject of a weird, crazy or fucked up true story which links to a more detailed article. There is a lot of true crime stuff in there and some very interesting articles. I only just stumbled upon this page recently but I've already discovered a bunch of good potential podcast episodes. I love following pages like this that serve a constant supply weirdness. Straight in the veins baby!

Okay I watched it

So the new documentary House of HammerOkay, I watched it. And... I dunno.... it's kind of.. meh.Obviously not to downplay the experiences of all the **alleged** victims of Armie Hammer (who does appear to be super freaky). It's just that the series was not that interesting.  Most people I've spoken to IRL seem to agree with me. I'd rate it a solid 5/10. There is a lot of good content out there.I do hope that Armie Hammer does see some consequences for his **alleged** actions. I will be standing by to update, but right now, according to reports, "Armie is selling time shares in the Cayman Islands".Anywhoo....

The Teacher's Pet

Have you listened to the podcast The Teacher's Pet?  It is a very popular show, with over 60 million downloads. So...you've probably heard of it. The series is hosted by award winning journalist Hedley Thomas and goes through the 40 year old Australian cold case of Lynette Dawson. The mother-of-two went missing in 1982 and hasn't been seen since.  It's pretty obvious to EVERYONE that the husband (Chris Dawson) did it. As they always do! Chris Dawson is Lynette's ex-husband and a teacher, who was cheating on her with one of his underage students at the time of her disappearance. So many things wrong with that scenario, my GOD.Thomas called Chris Dawson out in his podcast, talked to a number of witnesses, family members, police and went through all the circumstantial evidence that pointed to Chris as Lynette's murderer. The podcast was adored by true crime fans around the world, and it all ended in Chris actually being tried and convicted of Lynette's murder. I could not think of a more satisfying ending to a podcast. RIGHT?Now, the real tea here has more to do with how some people think that the show actually hindered the whole trial.  This article breaks down a bunch of the criticisms that were launched at Hedley for the way he tackled the subject and how it affected the trial, and may lead to an increased likelihood of a successful appeal.I guess it's just an interesting question, where is the line when making content on current or unsolved cases? Some people also argue that it was the podcast that pushed this case to move forward in the first place.  Hmm....I definitely do not have the answer, but maybe someone does. Let me know if that's you!On brand

If you watched any of out latest podcast episodes, or if you follow me on instagram, you may have caught us in these amazing and very on brand sweaters. They are by Forensic Myles and I have a 20% off code (Madison) for anything on her site! Also just so you know, if you purchase from FM, you have to option of rounding up your purchase to made a donation to the Joyful Heart Foundation, which is a charity started by Mariska Hargitay (AKA Olivia Benson from Law and Order: SVU). Their mission is to "transform society’s response to sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse, support survivors’ healing, and end this violence forever".So that's pretty cool...

Survey

Last week's question was which serial killer scares you the most? The most common answer was BTK. Can't say I disagree...
Some others that I would put in a top 3 are:
Gary Heidnik - For the torture
Ted Bundy - For the wolf in sheep's clothing aspect
Israel Keyes - For the intelligence, randomness and he seemed so normal!

Now I think answering a question like this is super personal, and someone is much scarier, if you could possibly fit their victim profile. So just saying, if I was a young gay man I would definitely say John Wayne Gacy.

This week I would love to know what is the most disturbing true crime documentary you've ever seen?
(please respond to this email)

I will let you know some good answers next week, and thank you for getting all the way to the end!
